Reading Room

UFSC University Hospital’s Salim Miguel Reading Room (SSM) was inaugurated in November 2005 with the aim of contributing to the humanization process and encouraging the reading habits of inpatients, outpatients, companions and HU staff members.

The collection consists of works of several genres, such as national and foreign literature, children’s literature, self-help books, magazines, comic books and newspapers, all donated by the community.

The initial collection was donated by the White Martins Reading Room Project, together with Record Editorial Group. Together, they donated 1.000 titles, including five hundred books of all literary genres.

Today, the collection consists of around 4.000 titles due to the collaboration of the community, which spares no efforts to make their donations.

Salim Miguel Reading Room also provides cultural and entertainment activities for its users, such as theater performances, dance, poetry recitals, among others.
